Join us for a special event at Yoga Maya Kalamunda, where practicing Ayurvedic student and Yoga Teacher Shona Renade will guide you through a beginners introductory course on the Ayurvedic practice of Abhyanga, warm oil self-massage.
The course is spread over four sessions including at the Studio (two 2-hour immersions covering 4 modules), PLUS two on-line (1-hr follow-up sessions) offering: Q&A discussion, and guided Abhyanga practice from the comfort of your own home.
What is Abhyanga? Abhyanga is an Ayurvedic practice of self-massage using warm oils. It is believed to promote health and well-being by balancing the doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha - further reading on these included down below) and improving circulation. Abhyanga is typically performed in the morning before bathing and involves massaging the entire body, including the scalp and soles of the feet, with warm oil. It is often used as a form of relaxation and rejuvenation in Ayurveda.
Abhyanga can be done by almost everyone! It is generally safe and and beneficial for most people at any age and change, transition or ability of life! There are some considerations to keep in mind and if any of these relate to you reach out to your healthcare professional for advice and reach out to us as we may know options just for you to help support YOUR unique Abyanga practice. Considerations can include: pregnancy, skin conditions, allergies, sensitivity, medical conditions.
