Restorative Yoga: Deep Rest for Body and Mind
Restorative Yoga is a gentle, nurturing practice designed to help you deeply relax your body, calm your mind, and soothe your nervous system. This class prioritises comfort and support, using props like bolsters, cushions, and blankets to create a fully supported experience in each pose. By holding a small number of poses for longer periods, typically 4 to 6 poses in a 60-minute session, your body is encouraged to release tension and enter a state of profound rest.
In this practice, we focus on cultivating stillness and ease, allowing your body to relax into each posture with minimal effort. Restorative Yoga activates the parasympathetic nervous system—the “rest and digest” response—which can counteract the effects of chronic stress, reduce anxiety, and improve overall well-being. Scientific research supports that restorative yoga can help lower cortisol levels, improve sleep quality, and enhance emotional balance by allowing the body to rest deeply (American Psychological Association).
With eyes gently closed and attention turned inward, you’re guided to focus on your breath and sensations, accompanied by soft music and gentle cues. This meditative aspect not only quiets the mind but also helps restore your body’s natural rhythms.
Our students often describe feeling a sense of deep rejuvenation, with many noting improved energy levels, reduced anxiety, and better sleep following class. Restorative Yoga offers you a sanctuary from the daily hustle, providing a space to reconnect with yourself and experience true rest.
Whether you’re dealing with stress, fatigue, or simply seeking a restorative pause in your week, this class is an invitation to slow down, breathe deeply, and let go.
